How to choose a baby mattress

Как да изберем бебешки матрак

During the first 2 months, your little baby will spend about 20 hours a day sleeping, so the most precious gift you can give them is a peaceful sleep.

The prerequisite for good sleep is a quality mattress. An unsuitable one can damage the spine, cause discomfort, insomnia, and negatively affect the normal physical development of the young child. Therefore, when choosing a mattress, you need to ensure a few things.

One of them is that it is flat and not too thick. It is important that the mattress is absolutely firm, anti-allergenic, and breathable. These are very important things to consider.
If you already have a baby cot, the only thing left for you to do is choose the right mattress.

Here are some tips for that:

1. Choose the correct mattress size
For baby mattresses , there isn't a wide choice of sizes; they can be 60/120 or 70/140. Make sure it fits perfectly in your baby's cot, so there's no risk of them getting their hand or foot caught. There should be no gap at all from the cot frame.

2. Choose a firm mattress
Softer or medium-firm mattresses may seem like a good choice for older children, but until babies can hold up their heads, it's better for them to sleep on a moderately firm surface to ensure their airways are clear.

With a very firm mattress, the baby's pressure points are the head and pelvis, which leads to tension in the spine. A moderately firm mattress helps reduce tension in the muscles of the entire body, provides orthopedic support for the spine, and promotes proper blood circulation in the baby.

It is very important, when choosing a children's mattress, to pay attention to the quality of the materials. It is desirable for them to be natural, and also to have a sign for antibacterial and anti-mite properties. Natural materials do not retain dust, as is the case with many synthetic fabrics. When sleeping on a mattress, no matter how much you air it out, if it is not made of quality materials, there comes a time when it accumulates a lot of dust from our environment. That's why we recommend the highest class of mattresses to our customers when it comes to a baby, namely the Magniflex Pierre Cardin baby mattress with a summer side with cotton and a winter side with wool.

3. Mattress composition
When choosing a mattress, opt for those made of highly elastic foam.
Foam rubber is a somewhat outdated technology, and fewer and fewer mattress manufacturers produce it. Over time, it has been replaced by polyurethane foam, which has greater elasticity and higher density, preventing the mattress from deforming. This is a good choice for your baby. Avoid baby mattresses with memory foam, as the head sinks in and can hinder breathing.

4. Mattress cover
Always choose mattresses with antibacterial textiles, bamboo treatment, cotton covers, or those with aloe vera, which soothe and do not irritate the skin.
An important addition to the baby mattress are protectors. In most cases, they are waterproof and prevent the mattress from getting wet in case of accidents. They should also be 100% cotton and not cause irritation or allergies.
