If lately you have had to choose, or you are currently looking for a new mattress, you have most likely come across the terms single-sided and double-sided mattress. Many people think this is an extra feature of the mattress, but in fact, it defines its type.
These terms indicate whether the mattress has a built-in bed base or needs to be placed on a separate one.
Single-sided mattresses:
They can only be slept on from one side. Generally speaking, single-sided mattresses have a frame that is part of the mattress itself and is placed directly into the bed frame cavity. The warranty of single-sided mattresses is shorter because they cannot be flipped, which would extend their lifespan.
Most double-sided mattresses offer different comfort on each side, making them multifunctional and preferred by people who enjoy experimenting. Their warranty is often more than 20 years, as you can periodically flip them to preserve the same level of comfort as on the day of purchase for longer.
Another feature of double-sided mattresses is their winter and summer side: the summer side either has cooling foam or a more breathable fabric, while the winter side either has memory foam or wool in the fabric.
With double-sided mattresses, you are more likely to find a zipper on the cover, allowing it to be washed.
